The Cronus Zen has only two error codes Cronus documents on the device, E3001 and E3002; almost everything else is a short text message on the OLED, in Zen Studio, in the firmware updater or on the console, and each one points at one part of the chain. This page is the lookup: message, what it means, first fix, and the article that goes deeper. Messages in Cronus's own wording come from its guide pages, linked in each section; rows marked "representative" describe what you see in substance, and the exact wording on your screen may differ.

## On the Zen's OLED

| Message | Means | First fix | Article |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Zen Bootloader | Firmware-flashing mode | If unintended: check the reset button; reflash | [Firmware](/docs/cronus-zen-firmware-update-downgrade-recovery) |
| E3001 | Firmware missing or corrupted | Reinstall the firmware | Same |
| E3002 | A system crash, most often a faulty script, an unsupported device or a device in the wrong port | Unplug every cable for at least 10 seconds; then a hard reset | [Slots and memory](/docs/cronus-zen-script-slots-and-memory) |
| A script error message, on slot 0 | A GPC error; firmware since 2.1.0 Beta.16 returns to slot 0 and shows it | Fix or replace the script | [Script not working](/docs/cronus-zen-script-not-working) |
| Collective Minds logo, no slot active | No GamePack or script running | Press P1 to a programmed slot | [Screen and LEDs](/docs/cronus-zen-screen-and-led-meanings) |
| Stuck on the Collective Minds logo | Freezing or abnormal behaviour | Cronus's fix: a hard reset; then bootloader and reflash | [Stuck on logo](/docs/cronus-zen-stuck-on-logo) |
| Blank screen when connected | Cronus classes it as a defective unit | Rule out the cable and port; then warranty | [Not detected](/docs/cronus-zen-not-detected) |
| Any menu you did not set | The running script or GamePack drew it | The script's notes | [Screen and LEDs](/docs/cronus-zen-screen-and-led-meanings) |

## In the firmware updater

| Message | Means | First fix |
| --- | --- | --- |
| No Devices Found | Wrong port, faulty cable, or not enough power | CONSOLE/PC port with the reset button held; another cable; a powered hub |
| Cronus Zen missing from the list (Live) | The Zen is not in bootloader mode | Unplug; hold the blue button; plug in while holding |
| Firmware: 0.0.0 | An interrupted update left the firmware corrupt | Bootloader; update again |
| DFU Download Failed State | Bad cable or not enough power | A powered USB hub; then another cable |
| Stuck on Flashing Firmware, or Unexpected Error | The flash hung or was interrupted | Unplug every cable from the Zen; restart the computer |
| Network Error | A provider or firewall blocking Cronus's server | Disable the firewall briefly, or a VPN |
| Firmware updated (Live) | Success | Click Close; reconnect normally |

## On the console

The console's own wording varies by console and system version, so these rows are representative.

| Console message | Means | First fix | Article |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Controller disconnected (Xbox, PS4, crossover) | The authentication controller on A1 dropped; Cronus says it must stay connected the whole time | Reseat A1; press the home button | [Authentication controller](/docs/cronus-zen-authentication-controller) |
| Controller disconnects after a few seconds (PS5) | Neither Zen Link nor the PS5 bypass is in use | Zen Link in A1, set up per Cronus's current Zen Link pages, which is the route Cronus recommends; the bypass is a manual procedure that has to be repeated | [PS5 setup](/docs/cronus-zen-ps5-setup) |
| Zen Link light blinking red (PS5) | On Cronus's current status-light page, short red blinks mean a PS5 Native Mode request failed and clear in about ten seconds; long red blinks mean the module has stopped | Count the blinks. Four short blinks, no internet, is the most common: check the connection and try again | [Screen and LEDs](/docs/cronus-zen-screen-and-led-meanings) |
| Remote Play disconnected (PS5, Zen Link on older module firmware) | Cronus's older Zen Link page says PS Remote Play disconnects from Zen Link after an idle period | Wake the console; reconnect | [PS5 setup](/docs/cronus-zen-ps5-setup) |
| Accessory not supported, or unlicensed accessory | The console rejected the pad on A1; Cronus supports only licensed controllers designed for consoles | An official or licensed pad for that console on A1 | [Controller not recognised](/docs/cronus-zen-controller-not-recognised) |
| Press the PS or Xbox button | The console wants the player slot claimed | Press home on the A1 pad | |
| No wired controller response (Switch) | Pro Controller Wired Communication is off | System Settings > Controllers and Sensors > Pro Controller Wired Communication: On | [Switch setup](/docs/cronus-zen-nintendo-switch-setup) |

## In the game

| Message | Means | First fix |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Controller disconnected, Zen still on | The A1 cable | Reseat; route the cable |
| Unsupported input device, or restricted hardware notice | The game has flagged the device; Fortnite and Call of Duty publish positions | [Is the Cronus Zen detectable?](/docs/is-the-cronus-zen-detectable) |
| Wrong button prompts (PC) | Output protocol | Set the Emulator Output Protocol in Zen Studio's Device panel; [PC setup](/docs/cronus-zen-pc-setup) |

## If your message is not here

Write down exactly what the screen says and where it appeared, then start at [Cronus Zen not detected](/docs/cronus-zen-not-detected) if it is about connection, [Script not working](/docs/cronus-zen-script-not-working) if the device is fine and the script is not, and the script's author for anything the script drew itself. Messages that arrive more than once get added to this page with the next revision.

## FAQ

**Does the Cronus Zen have error codes?**

A few. Cronus documents E3001 (firmware missing or corrupted) and E3002 (a system crash) on the device. Older firmware showed E2XXX codes for script errors until 2.1.0 Beta.16, which returns the Zen to slot 0 with a message instead. Everything else is a text message.

**What does connected but not responding mean?**

Desktop Zen Studio can see the Zen on PROG but has lost its pairing to it, or the firmware is too old. Cronus's fix is Find Device in the Device panel, then unplugging and reconnecting the PROG cable.

**What does error opening file for writing mean?**

The desktop Zen Studio 1.5.0 Build 24 auto-update was run, which Cronus calls a known bug. Uninstall the old Zen Studio, then install 1.6.1 Build 82 manually.

**What does the console mean by controller disconnected?**

The console lost the controller it authenticates. In a crossover setup, Cronus says the authentication controller on A1 must stay connected the whole time, so reseat A1 first. On a PS5, the Zen needs Zen Link or the PS5 bypass; Cronus's current guide recommends Zen Link and describes the bypass as a manual procedure that has to be repeated.

**What is a GPC compile error?**

A mistake in the script text that stops it compiling: a missing semicolon, an unknown function, a bracket out of place. The line number in the error is the place to look, and Cronus says to fix the first message from the top first.

**Where do firmware tool errors come from?**

Zen Studio Live's updater, Cronus's web update tool or the desktop firmware tool. Most mean the Zen is not in bootloader mode, the cable is in PROG instead of CONSOLE/PC, the cable is charge-only, or the browser is not Chrome or Edge.
