The Cronus Zen is restricted hardware in Fortnite: Epic's support page names it, says Fortnite shows a warning when it detects such hardware, and says trying to bypass the restriction may result in a permanent ban. That rule comes first on this page. The rest is the map of what a Fortnite script does, what breaks it, and the settings a macro assumes.

## Epic's rule, first

Epic's support article [Why am I receiving a Restricted Hardware Warning in Fortnite?](https://www.epicgames.com/help/fortnite-battle-royale-c-34254770/player-behavior-c-40491939/why-am-i-receiving-a-restricted-hardware-warning-in-fortnite-a23729985) (undated; read 7 October 2026) says a warning "means we've detected hardware that gives an unfair competitive advantage". It lists the Cronus Zen, the Cronus Max and "other similar devices that modify input or behavior" as examples, tells players to remove the device and restart Fortnite, and says: "Trying to bypass this restriction may result in a permanent ban from Fortnite." Approved accessibility devices such as the Xbox Accessibility Controller are supported. [Is the Cronus Zen detectable?](/docs/is-the-cronus-zen-detectable) records the position and keeps it current. Nothing on this site describes any script as undetectable.

## What a script changes

| Feature | What it does | Depends on | Goes stale when |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Aim-assist tuning | Small constant stick movement to keep assist engaged | The game's assist rules by mode and range | Season and balance changes |
| Build macros | Ramp-wall-floor, 90s on one press | Binds; turbo build; confirm settings | Bind or setting changes |
| Edit macros | Edit, select, confirm on one press | Edit-on-release and confirm settings | Same |
| M&K translation | Mouse to right stick; keys to buttons; the game applies controller assist | The Zen's M&K profile | Assist rule changes |
| Remaps | Any button to any | Nothing | Never |

[Fortnite aim assist scripts explained](/docs/fortnite-aim-assist-scripts-explained) is the mechanism; [mouse and keyboard on the Zen](/docs/cronus-zen-mouse-and-keyboard) is the M&K side.

## The season rhythm

| Period | What happens | What it means |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Season start | Map, loot, sometimes assist and movement changes | Re-test tuning; macros usually survive |
| Within a season | Balance updates | Tuning may shift |
| New modes | Different assist behaviour | Per-mode profile if the script has one |
| Chapter changes | Larger mechanic changes | Everything re-tested |

[The monthly roundup](/docs/cronus-zen-game-support-roundup-september-2026) records the passes that matter.

## The settings a macro assumes

| Setting | Value most scripts assume | If different |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Turbo build | On | Build macros misfire |
| Confirm edit on release | As the script's notes say | Edit macros stop half-way |
| Edit on release | As the notes say | Same |
| Build binds | The script's default layout, or your binds entered in the script | Wrong pieces placed |
| Sensitivity and curve | Entered in the script | Tuning scaled wrongly |

## Setup

| Element | Setting | Why |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Pad | Wired; on A1 on Xbox, on A3 on PS5 | [Wired vs wireless](/docs/wired-vs-wireless-controllers-cronus-zen) |
| M&K | Controller A1, keyboard A2, mouse A3, all wired | [Mouse and keyboard](/docs/cronus-zen-mouse-and-keyboard) |
| Zen | Direct into the console | [Ports and cables](/docs/cronus-zen-ports-and-cables) |
| PS5 | Zen Link on A1, pad on A3, Cronus's PS5 settings applied | [PS5 setup](/docs/cronus-zen-ps5-setup) |
| Xbox | Official Microsoft pad, wired, on A1 | [Xbox Series setup](/docs/cronus-zen-xbox-series-setup) |
| Switch | Nintendo pads by Bluetooth only; Cronus lists Switch, OLED and Lite, not Switch 2 | [Switch setup](/docs/cronus-zen-nintendo-switch-setup) |
| Test | Creative, after every season start | Before a public match |

## Quirks specific to Fortnite

- **Gyro.** Cronus's PS5 page lists the DualSense gyroscope among the features supported through Zen Link. Aim-assist tuning moves the stick, so it is a separate thing from gyro aim.
- **M&K through the Zen.** The console sees a controller, so the game treats the mouse as a stick. Epic's page names the Zen without distinguishing a pad setup from an M&K one.
- **The warning.** Epic describes detection followed by a warning and a restart; the permanent ban it mentions is for trying to bypass the restriction.

## FAQ

**Does the Cronus Zen work on Fortnite?**

Not within Epic's rules. Epic's support page names the Cronus Zen as restricted hardware, says Fortnite shows a warning when it detects such hardware, and says to remove it and restart to keep playing. Trying to bypass the restriction may result in a permanent ban.

**What can a script change in Fortnite?**

Keep controller aim assist engaged with small stick movement, chain build and edit inputs on one press, and translate a mouse into a stick that gets aim assist. It cannot add assist the game does not give.

**Does the Zen give mouse and keyboard aim assist in Fortnite?**

It makes a mouse look like a stick, and the game gives controllers aim assist. It also makes the mouse feel like a stick. Epic's page lists the Zen as restricted hardware without distinguishing how it is used.

**Do build macros break every season?**

Rarely. They depend on binds and build settings. Aim tuning is what a season breaks.

**Zero Build or Build for scripts?**

Aim tuning applies to both; macros only matter in Build. Epic's restriction names the device, not a mode.

**Wired or wireless?**

Wired for M&K by necessity, and a wired pad if tuning matters: on A1 on Xbox, on A3 on PS5, where Zen Link takes A1.
