Cronus Zen on Nintendo Switch: dock and handheld wiring, which pads pair, and what Switch 2 lacks
The Cronus Zen works on Nintendo Switch, OLED and Lite, docked or handheld with a USB-C OTG adapter, once wired Pro Controller mode is on, but not on Switch 2.
Yes: the Cronus Zen works on the Nintendo Switch, Switch OLED and Switch Lite, docked or handheld, once Pro Controller Wired Communication is on and the Zen's output protocol is set to NINTENDO SWITCH. The Switch 2 is not supported: Cronus's older guide says so, and its current guide does not list it. There is no licence handshake and no module. The things that trip people up are that one Switch setting, the output protocol, the dock's power supply, and the fact that official Nintendo controllers pair only by Bluetooth. This page has the wiring for docked and handheld play, the pad table, and the Switch 2 status.
What works and what does not

What you need
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Switch, Switch OLED or Switch Lite | Docked: the TV dock with its 15 V power supply. Handheld or Lite: a USB-C OTG adapter |
| Zen on current firmware | Cronus's current guide lists firmware 2.3.2 (18 August 2026) as the latest release; Firmware |
| A controller | A crossover pad (DualSense, DualShock 4, Xbox Series or One) by USB to A3; or an official Nintendo pad by Bluetooth |
| Data cable, CONSOLE/PC to the dock or adapter | A charge-only cable carries no data, so nothing appears; ports and cables |
| Zen Studio | Cronus's current pages set the output protocol in Zen Studio's Device panel, with the Zen's PROG port connected to a computer |
Cronus's current guide is built around Zen Studio Live, the browser-based version of Zen Studio, with nothing to install; its controller pages still give the output protocol as Zen Studio, Device Panel, Nintendo Switch. The steps below follow those pages.
Step by step
- Firmware. Update the Zen to the latest firmware first; Cronus lists 2.3.2 as the latest release. Hold the small blue reset button while plugging a data cable into CONSOLE/PC, then use Update Firmware in Zen Studio Live.
- Output protocol. Connect the Zen's PROG port to a PC, open Zen Studio, select the Device panel and set the Emulator Output Protocol to NINTENDO SWITCH.
- Enable wired Pro Controller communication. System Settings, Controllers and Sensors, Pro Controller Wired Communication: On. Cronus says this must be on for the Zen to pair with the Switch.
- Connect the Zen. Docked: CONSOLE/PC to a USB port on the TV dock, with the dock's 15 V power supply connected, or the Zen will not power on. Handheld or Lite: CONSOLE/PC through a USB-C OTG adapter into the console.
- Connect the pad. Crossover pads by USB into A3. A Pro Controller: press the Zen's P2 button so its RGB LEDs flash blue, then hold the controller's sync button until the player LEDs flash; Cronus says the player LEDs and the Zen's LEDs stop flashing and stay solid once paired. Joy-Cons pair one at a time: press P2, hold the left Joy-Con's sync button until its player LEDs flash, and after a few seconds the Zen's LEDs turn red and the Joy-Con vibrates; then hold the right one's sync button until it vibrates. Bluetooth pairing.
- Check the connection. Open Controllers from the Switch menu. If the controller shows a USB icon, the Switch is synced to the Zen; if not, tap the Zen's reset button to resync.
- Script. Load through PROG, unplug PROG, test. How to put a script on the Zen.

When the Switch does not see it
| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| No new controller in the menu | Wired communication off | Turn it on in System Settings |
| Zen does not power on, docked | Dock without its 15 V supply | Connect the dock's power supply |
| No new controller, setting is on | Charge-only cable, or cable in PROG | Data cable in CONSOLE/PC |
| No USB icon in the Controllers menu | Zen not synced | Tap the Zen's reset button |
| Controller appears, no input | Output not set to NINTENDO SWITCH | Set it in Zen Studio's Device panel |
| Joy-Con or Pro will not pair | P2 not pressed, or each Joy-Con not paired separately | Set the protocol first, then P2, then sync the left Joy-Con, then the right |
| Works in the menu, not in the game | The game expects a controller style or feature the Zen is not presenting | Check the game's controller options |
| Drops out | Controller battery, or a loose cable | Charge the pad; reseat the cables; disconnecting |
Games where it matters
Cronus says the Zen supports all official Nintendo controllers. It does not say whether a crossover pad's motion sensor reaches the Switch, so games that lean on gyro aiming, such as Splatoon, are safest on an official Nintendo pad. Fighting games, sports titles and anything stick-and-button-driven work as on any console. Scripts for Switch titles are fewer than for PS5 and Xbox; Scripts by game lists where they exist. This site has found no Nintendo statement naming the Zen, and Nintendo's online conduct rules are broad; Is the Cronus Zen detectable? applies here as everywhere.

| Nothing appears | Cable, then the wired-communication setting, then the output setting, then tap reset |
| Want to use a Pro Controller | Bluetooth via P2; no cable option |
| Want a wired headset | Docked, through a DualSense, DualShock 4 v2 or Xbox pad on A3 |
| Switch 2 | Not supported, per Cronus's older guide; not listed in the current one |
Frequently asked
- Does the Cronus Zen work on Nintendo Switch?
- Yes. Cronus lists the Switch, Switch OLED and Switch Lite as supported, docked on the TV dock or handheld. Pro Controller Wired Communication must be on for the Zen to pair with the console.
- Does it work on the Switch Lite or in handheld mode?
- Yes, through a USB-C OTG adapter, per Cronus's Switch page. Docked play uses the dock's USB port, and Cronus says the dock's 15 V power supply must be connected or the Zen will not power on.
- Does it work on Switch 2?
- Not as of October 2026. Cronus's older guide has a Switch 2 page saying the Zen does not currently support it; the Switch page in its current guide lists only the Switch, Switch OLED and Switch Lite.
- Do I need an authentication controller on Switch?
- No. Cronus's Switch page says crossover USB controllers go on A3 and an AUTH controller on A1 is not required.
- Why does the Switch not see the Zen?
- Pro Controller Wired Communication is off, the cable is charge-only, the dock has no 15 V supply, or the Zen's output is not set to NINTENDO SWITCH. If the Controllers menu shows no USB icon, tap the Zen's reset button.
- Can I use a Joy-Con or Pro Controller through the Zen?
- Yes, by Bluetooth only, paired with the Zen's P2 button. Cronus's connection matrix lists Nintendo Switch controllers as Bluetooth only, with no USB, and its Switch page says the Zen supports all official Nintendo controllers.
