Does the Cronus Zen work in MW4 early access?
MW4 campaign early access opened 16 October 2026 and DMZ follows on 20 October. The Zen connects as a pad; Activision has not said if RICOCHET runs there.
The Cronus Zen works in Modern Warfare 4's early access at the device level: a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S console treats it as a controller, while the Switch 2 version is outside what Cronus supports. Early access runs in two stages before the 23 October 2026 launch, the campaign from 16 October and DMZ from 20 October, and Activision has published nothing about input devices that applies only to early access.
When does MW4 early access start, and who gets it?
Campaign Early Access started on Friday 16 October 2026 and DMZ Early Access starts on Tuesday 20 October, for players who bought the Standard Digital Edition or the Vault Edition as a digital pre-order or pre-purchase. Activision's post of 16 October lists Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, PlayStation 5, Battle.net, Steam and Nintendo Switch 2.
| Window | Opens | What it includes | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Campaign Early Access | 16 October 2026 | The entire campaign, playable "all the way up until the official launch date" | Call of Duty blog, 16 October 2026 |
| DMZ Early Access | 20 October 2026 | "All of DMZ" | DMZ guide, 9 October 2026 |
| Full launch | 23 October 2026 | The Multiplayer maps and modes on the launch roadmap | Roadmap on X, 14 October 2026 |
Activision gives no start hour for either window. Both early access posts speak only of digital orders, and a COD Intel post of 15 October 2026 calls Modern Warfare 4 a "standalone release" that reaches Game Pass in Holiday 2027, so a subscription on its own opens neither window.
Can you use a Cronus Zen in the campaign early access?
The Zen connects on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in the campaign as it does in any other mode, because Cronus describes support console by console and the game receives a controller signal. Cronus's Switch page, read on 16 October 2026, names the Switch, Switch OLED and Switch Lite and no Switch 2.
A script written for Black Ops 7 carries Black Ops 7 weapon tables. The Modern Warfare 4 hub sets out what Activision rebuilt in recoil and weapon handling, which is why those tables do not transfer.
Activision's posts do not say whether the campaign needs a connection. Insider Gaming reported on 28 May 2026 that it can be played offline, without naming a source, and the PC specifications Activision posted on 29 September list a broadband connection at every tier.
Is RICOCHET anti-cheat active during early access?
For the campaign, Activision has not said. The firmest date it has given is in a Team RICOCHET article posted on X on 21 August 2026, where new RICOCHET technology "comes online alongside Modern Warfare 4 on October 23"; the article does not mention early access.
The rules are written per game. Activision's Security and Enforcement Policy, dated 31 July 2026, applies to every Call of Duty title from Modern Warfare (2019) onward and counts "unapproved input modification devices" used for cheating as an infraction, with no distinction between modes.
Call of Duty's post on X of 25 September 2026 said Activision judges these devices "by what they do in a match", and that Zen or XIM users who cheat "are subject to account and console bans". The post names no mode.
What changes when DMZ early access opens on 20 October?
DMZ puts other players into early access. Activision's Hajin guide of 5 October 2026 describes an extraction mode where players "fight both enemies and rival Operators", with proximity chat and bounties on other squads.
That brings hardware bans into play. Under the policy, a banned device "cannot be used for online gameplay" and the ban may extend across Call of Duty titles, future ones included, while the 25 September post says the more than 70,000 hardware bans issued before launch "carry into launch". Neither text names early access; What is a Call of Duty hardware ban? goes through the policy clause by clause.
On 2 October 2026 Call of Duty announced Server Culling on X, a Modern Warfare 4 measure aimed at wallhacks, and it says nothing about input devices. The latest Activision statement on the Zen or XIM that this site could find on 16 October is still the one of 25 September.
Frequently asked
- Can you use a Cronus Zen in MW4 early access?
- The device connects: on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S the console treats the Zen as a controller during early access, and Cronus does not list Switch 2. Whether its use is allowed is a separate matter. Activision's post of 25 September 2026 says players who cheat with the Zen or XIM face account and console bans, and it makes no exception for early access.
- When does Modern Warfare 4 early access start?
- Campaign Early Access started on Friday 16 October 2026 and DMZ Early Access starts on Tuesday 20 October, ahead of the full launch on 23 October. Activision has published the dates without a start hour.
- Does a disc copy or Game Pass get MW4 early access?
- Activision offers both windows to digital pre-orders and pre-purchases of the Standard Digital or Vault Edition and names no other route. Modern Warfare 4 is not on Game Pass at launch; Activision says it joins Game Pass in Holiday 2027.
- Is RICOCHET anti-cheat active in MW4 early access?
- Activision has not said for the campaign. Its RICOCHET article of 21 August 2026 says new anti-cheat technology comes online with the launch on 23 October, and its enforcement policy covers each Call of Duty title from Modern Warfare (2019) without separating modes.
- Does the MW4 campaign need an internet connection?
- Activision's own posts do not say. Insider Gaming reported on 28 May 2026 that the campaign can be played offline, without naming its source. DMZ, which opens on 20 October, is played online against rival squads.
- Can a hardware-banned console play MW4 early access?
- Activision has not addressed early access directly. Its policy says a device with an active hardware ban cannot be used for online gameplay in past, present or future Call of Duty games, and its 25 September 2026 post says existing hardware bans carry into launch.
