Cronus Zen vs XIM Matrix: scripting device against mouse-and-keyboard adapter

Cronus Zen vs XIM Matrix: the Zen runs GPC scripts and GamePacks, while the XIM is a mouse-aim adapter with a macro engine and no scripting language.

Choose the Cronus Zen if you want to run scripts and GamePacks, and the XIM Matrix if mouse aim on a console is the main thing you want; they overlap on mouse and keyboard and on cross-console controllers, and differ on everything else. The Zen is a scripting device that also does mouse and keyboard; the XIM Matrix is a multi-input adapter built around mouse aim, with a macro engine but no scripting language. Decide what you want first and the choice makes itself.

What each one is

Cronus Zen XIM Matrix
Maker Collective Minds XIM Technologies
Purpose Rewrite controller input with scripts; also M&K and crossover controllers Mice, keyboards, gyro and cross-console controllers on a console, in XIM's words a "multi-input adapter"
Scripting GPC scripts, GamePacks, eight 32 KB slots None; Smart Actions macro engine
Mouse and keyboard Yes, M&K mode with a settings panel and importable game profiles Yes, through XIM's Smart Translator aim system
Configuration tool Zen Studio Live in a browser, or the legacy desktop Zen Studio XIM MATRIX Manager app on Android, iOS and PC
Status OLED screen on the device A status light; settings and feedback in the app
Authentication on Xbox A matching pad on A1 for crossover play A genuine Xbox Series, One or Elite controller on its USB port 3
PS5 Zen Link module over Wi-Fi (PS5 Native Mode), the route Cronus recommends; or a manual bypass that has to be repeated Remote Play over wired Ethernet, or USB with a third-party P5General
Xbox Series, Xbox One, PS4, PC Yes (PC without Cronus's official support) Yes
Switch Yes, Switch, OLED and Lite; not Switch 2 Not on XIM's supported list

Mouse and keyboard: the overlap

Both translate mouse movement into right-stick position, because the console only understands a stick. The difference is how much of each device is built around that translation.

Zen M&K mode XIM Matrix
Per-game tuning Importable game profiles; you tune sensitivity, boost, curves and deadzone yourself, across six layouts Configs per game, shareable through XIM Config Cloud
Design focus One feature of a scripting device; Cronus says the goal is the best translation "within console limitations" The core of the device
Aim assist Applies, as to any stick Applies, as to any stick

If mouse aim is the only thing you want, the XIM is the purpose-built tool.

Scripting: the difference

The Zen runs code. A script can time a button, pull the stick against recoil, chain inputs, remap, and change behaviour with a combo. GamePacks do the same with a settings menu instead of code. The XIM Matrix has no scripting language and no slots. Its Smart Actions engine binds sequences of actions to inputs, and XIM's guide shows auto fire and basic recoil control built with it, which it says "isn't intended to match the recoil pattern exactly"; it cannot load a third-party script.

You want Device
Shot-timing scripts for NBA 2K Zen
Per-weapon anti-recoil tables from a script seller Zen
Remaps and macros Either; the Zen through scripts, the XIM through Smart Actions
Mouse aim with the least tuning XIM Matrix
Mouse aim plus a third-party script on top Zen; the XIM cannot load one
A device with a screen you can read across the room Zen

How the Cronus Zen works explains what a script can and cannot do; Scripts by game lists the games.

Consoles and setup

On Xbox both need a genuine Xbox controller connected for authentication when you play on a mouse, a keyboard or another console's pad. On PS5 neither uses one: the Zen's recommended route is the Zen Link module, which Cronus's current guide says gives PS5 Native Mode with a one-time setup, while its bypass is a manual procedure that has to be repeated (PS5 setup); XIM's route is the PS5's Remote Play over a wired network connection. XIM's own guide is the authority for its setup; this site does not track it beyond what that guide states.

Risk

The same for both. Activision's Ricochet post of 2 February 2026 names "Cronus Zen and XIM Matrix" and says its detections look at how inputs behave, not which device is plugged in. Respawn's Apex Legends post of 4 March 2026 names Cronus and XIM. Nothing about either device is undetectable, and nothing on this site says otherwise. Is the Cronus Zen detectable? applies to the XIM equally.

Which to buy

If Buy
Scripts are the point, M&K is a bonus Zen
M&K is the point, scripts are not XIM Matrix
Both, seriously Zen; tune its M&K mode and accept it is not the XIM's
You play on Switch Zen; Switch is not on XIM's list
PS5 and you want the simpler day-one setup Compare the current PS5 route for each: Zen Link on Wi-Fi, or XIM on wired Ethernet
Undecided Decide what you want to do in the game first; the device follows

Cronus Zen alternatives puts the XIM next to the other options.

Frequently asked

Is the XIM Matrix better than the Cronus Zen for mouse and keyboard?
For mouse aim alone it is the purpose-built option: XIM's Smart Translator is the core of the device, while M&K is one feature of the Zen. Cronus itself says many Zen owners used a separate M&K device alongside the Zen before it rebuilt its M&K engine. This site has not measured the difference.
Can the XIM Matrix run scripts?
It has no scripting language and no script slots. It does have Smart Actions, a macro engine whose documented scenarios include auto fire and basic recoil control, but nothing that loads a GPC script, a GamePack or a timing script.
Do both work on PS5?
Yes, by different routes. Cronus's current guide recommends Zen Link, a Wi-Fi module that gives the Zen PS5 Native Mode, and describes the bypass that works without it as a manual procedure that has to be repeated. XIM's guide says the Matrix connects through Remote Play over your local network on a wired Ethernet connection, or over USB with a third-party device called P5General.
Which is more detectable?
Neither is undetectable. Activision's post of 2 February 2026 names both the Cronus Zen and the XIM Matrix, and Respawn's of 4 March 2026 names Cronus and XIM.
Can I use both together?
People do, with an M&K adapter feeding the Zen so the Zen adds a script on top; Cronus says many owners did this before it rebuilt its M&K engine. It is a chain with two power draws and two layers of translation, and this site does not recommend it.
Which is cheaper?
This site does not track prices. On PS5, Cronus recommends Zen Link, sold separately; the XIM's network route needs an Ethernet cable, which XIM says is not included.
