NBA 2K27 ban wave: does 2K's shooting aids ban cover the Cronus Zen?
On 24 September 2026 2K began permanent NBA 2K27 bans for shooting aids and input manipulation. The post names no device, the Cronus Zen included.
On 24 September 2026, 2K announced its first wave of permanent NBA 2K27 bans against accounts using "cheats and scripts" for "shooting aids and other input manipulation", covering any such use since early access opened on 26 August 2026. Repeat offenders face a console or PC ban, and 2K says enforcement will continue. The rest of the game's picture is on the NBA 2K27 hub.
What did 2K announce, and when?
The NBA 2K account on X posted the announcement on 24 September 2026, saying the first wave of permanent bans "is live, with more to come". The statement itself is an attached image headed "Protecting Fair Play" and dated September 24, 2026. Its points, in order:
- 2K promised action against cheating in August, and that action "starts today, with bans retroactive to day one".
- It has issued a first wave of permanent bans on accounts that used cheats and scripts for shooting aids and other input manipulation.
- The behaviour "violates our Player Code of Conduct".
- Any account found to have cheated this way since early access on 26 August 2026 "is subject to a permanent account ban", and "repeated cheating will result in a console/PC ban".
- "Every ban is reviewed and confirmed before it is applied."
- The first wave covers the accounts confirmed so far, and "enforcement will not stop here".
The statement gives no number of banned accounts, and none of the reporting under Sources gives one.
What counts as "shooting aids and other input manipulation"?
2K does not define either term. The statement gives no list of tools, programs or settings, and no example. 2K's general Code of Conduct is broader still, telling players not to "use unauthorized mods or any other means to gain an unfair advantage".
"Scripts" is also what Zen users call the programs the device runs, and by the plain meaning of the words a shot-timing script, which releases the shot button after a stored delay, is a shooting aid. The statement itself does not make that link, and 2K has not said publicly how it classifies any particular script, device or setting.
Did 2K name the Cronus Zen or any device?
No. The statement names no device, brand or program: not the Cronus Zen, no other adapter and no PC tool. It does not say whether the first wave was aimed at console players, PC players or both. The three outlets under Sources that reported it do not attribute a device name to 2K either.
That sets 2K apart from Activision, Respawn and Epic, which name the Zen in their own published positions, collected in Is the Cronus Zen detectable?. 2K's statement is written about accounts and behaviour, not hardware, so the missing device name does not mean any device is excluded.
What do a permanent account ban and a console/PC ban mean?
| Question | What 2K's statement says | What it does not say |
|---|---|---|
| Who is subject to a permanent account ban | Any account found to have used these methods to cheat since early access on 26 August 2026 | How "found" is established |
| What a console/PC ban is | Repeated cheating will result in one | How many offences count as repeated, how long it lasts, or whether it reaches other games |
| How bans are checked | Every ban is reviewed and confirmed before it is applied | Who reviews, or what evidence is used |
| Appeals | Nothing | Whether or how a ban can be appealed |
| What is lost | Nothing | What happens to Virtual Currency, MyCareer progress or MyTEAM items on a banned account |
| What comes next | The first wave covers accounts confirmed so far; enforcement continues | When, or how often, further waves run |
The statement does not say whether the console or PC ban, reserved for repeated cheating, is itself permanent.
How does 2K detect it, and what is not known?
2K has not said. The statement says only that "our detection is always improving, with new capabilities already in development", and that detection will evolve as cheating methods do. It does not say whether 2K looks at input patterns, hardware, PC software or player reports, and it gives no date for the next wave.
Also unknown: the thresholds, the number of accounts banned, and whether console and PC are treated alike. Claims about how 2K detects scripts, or about setups that avoid detection, do not come from 2K. Nothing on this site describes a script or device as undetectable.
How does this fit 2K's earlier position?
Before 24 September 2026 this site found no published 2K statement on scripts in NBA 2K27. The new statement refers back to a promise made in August. HotHardware reports that it came from 2K's global community and creators lead for NBA 2K, who said improved detections for automated cheating devices would go live after launch and that enforcement would be retroactive to day one. This site has not found that original post, so that detail is reporting, not 2K's words.
The 24 September statement gives NBA 2K27 a published enforcement position, but it still names no device and no method. The NBA 2K27 hub keeps 2K's position next to the game's setup and patch notes, and Is the Cronus Zen detectable? sets it against the other publishers.
